Laval farms a tiny domaine in Cumieres. ‘Les Longues Violes’ is a tiny parcel of old vines (dating back to 1947) of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier that his family has farmed for close to 200 years without every touching with pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. It is legendary amongst the growers in the region and has been for generations. This is the first vintage release from the parcel and was fermented in oak and settled on its lees for over 70 months. No dosage and only 1,520 were disgorged in May 2019.
It is a sinuous, vivid, and complex Champagne with darker tones than one might typically find. Honestly, it’s a Champagne unlike any other. Remarkably refined, with a density on the finish that shows its terroir and its careful aging in the cellar.
