With a nose of earth-dusted, umami-tinged black cherries leading into a palate of tangy acidity and notable yet unforced concentration, Piemaggio's Chianti Classico exemplifies Chianti's centuries-long history of producing some of the world's greatest wines. Well-buffered tannins bear the terroir's power, but the overall impression is one of balance; it’s a paragon of egoless drinkability.

Fresh and savory, this opens with aromas of dark berry, ground cooking spice and whiff of chopped herb. The vibrant palate doles out juicy black cherry, clove, star anise and blood orange accompanied by racy acidity.
This historic G.B Burlotto estate, located in the commune of Verduno in the Barolo DOCG, was established by Giovan Battista Burlotto, il Commendatore, in the mid-18th century, during whic time it earned the distinguished titles of “Supplier to the Savoy Royal Household” and “The Only Supplier to the Duke of Abruzzi’s Artic Expedition to the North Pole.” Burlotto distinguished himself by introducing the practice of selling bottled wine bearing his estate’s name (in the manner of French châteaux) at a time when it was customary practice to sell wine in cask. It is speculated that the Savoy court’s regard for the wines of Verduno enabled such formidable innovation, though Burlotto’s wines were lauded on the international scene as well.

Cherry red color with purple hue. Cloudy due to presence of residual yeast. Bright, fresh aromatics coupled with delicate hints of violet and rose. A pleasantly tart wine with notes of candied red fruit on the palate. Chill, shake, serve!
A historically significant winery whose origins date back to 1670. In this year, two of the estate’s most important vineyards—Perdaudin and Prachiosso—were first planted. With some of the most desired vineyard sites in Roero, Negro is one of the indisputable legends of the region. Giovanni Negro, the estate’s present owner, produced the first dry Roero Arneis on record in 1971. Following tradition, the winery in Monteu Roero now boasts a stunning lineup of Arneis as well as an impressive range of Roero Nebbiolo. Today, Negro observes organic practices while managing a staggering 64 hectares.

Vajra Clare J.C. Langhe Nebbiolo 2021Regular price $26.00 Save $-26.00
Claré JC is a unique wine, our take on the forgotten days of Nebbiolo, when it was enjoyed in its lighter and fresher garment. The winemaking protocol follows the 1606 writings of G.B. Croce, jeweler of the House of Savoia: the wine is bottled soon after the fermentation so as to retain a gentle off-dry finish and a lovely energy. The 2020 JC offers amazing drinkability and is one of the most transparent and vibrant vintages to date.
Transparent, bright red ruby color. Aromas of cherries, cherry stones, wild strawberries and pomegranate nectar on the nose. The bouquet is completed by whiffles of wet stone, orange blooms and sweet spices. Amazing drinkability on the palate, with a lingering finish of wild berries and purple flowers. The silky tannins make this wine ideal to be served slightly chilled during the warmer months (14-16°C) and can pair an amazing array of diverse food, from aperitifs and appetizers to spicy dishes, fried delicacies and BBQs.

While she hailed from a 150-year-old line of Langhe growers in the commune of La Morra, she brings a refreshingly artisanal sensibility to Barolo based on her viticulture studies, her immersion into the wines and winemaking of Burgundy, and a thirteen-year long period of experimentation of producing microcuvées before assuming full control of all vineyard management and production in 2014.

Montevertine Rosso di Toscana 2018Regular price $85.00 Save $-85.00
Varietal: 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Colorino
The story of the legendary Montevertine estate in Radda-in-Chianti begins in 1967, when Milanese industrialist Sergio Manetti purchased the property and immediately planted two hectares of vines. Assisted by his close childhood friend Giulio Gambelli and a local named Bruno Bini (who was born on the property), Manetti produced his first vintage in 1971, with the humble intention of making wine to share with his family and friends. It turns out the trio had a real knack for their craft, and word swiftly spread in the area about the quality of wine Montevertine was creating from their excellently situated high-altitude vineyards. Manetti and Gambelli were ardent proponents of Sangiovese from the outset, and strongly opposed the appellation requirement that Chianti Classico include a portion of Trebbiano—a requirement they felt compromised the expression of place, particularly in such a refined terroir as Radda. When regulations later changed to allow Chianti Classico to be Trebbiano-free, Montevertine had long since abandoned the designation, and the wines have been classified as “Rosso di Toscana” since 1981—although, ironically, they are (and always have been) among the most visceral expressions of Chianti Classico in existence.
The standard bearer of the estate, it is aged 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and is composed of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% of Colorino. The fruit for this bottling comes primarily from a 2.5 hectare parcel of vines planted in 1982 on a south – southeast facing slope.
