Vinous 92 points - "Deep vivid ruby. Highly perfumed red fruit preserve, incense and baking spice scents show impressive clarity and pick up a smoky mineral element with air. Sappy, sweet and broad in the mouth, offering juicy, spice-tinged raspberry, cherry and lavender pastille flavors and a hint of fruitcake. Closes very long and spicy, displaying excellent focus, well-knit tannins and strong, floral-driven persistence..February/2020"
The wine estate of Chateau du Trignon was acquired in 1895 by Joseph Roux and run by his descendants until 2007, when Pascal Roux, a passionate winemaker, who had kept the quality of the wine at the highest levels, sold the vineyard to another esteemed Rhone Valley winemaker, Jerome Quiot , who also owns and runs Domaine du Vieux Lazaret and Domaine Duclaux in Chateauneuf du Pape and Domaine Houchart in Provence. The wine is made from 150 acres of vines in five villages: Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Sablet and Beaumes de Venise.
Domaine du Gour de Chaule Tradition Gigondas 2017Regular price $37.00 Save $-37.00
Varietal: Grenache 80%, Syrah 10%, and Mour- vèdre 10%
This wine, the domaine's standard-bearer, is sturdy, braced with sweet, dusty tannins, and is intensely aromatic with notes of crushed white pepper, oriental spices and game. Raised with no new oak and picked while its grapes still carry refreshing levels of acidity, it is a reminder of the greatness that this village's wines have achieved since the Romans first founded Jocunditas, today's Gigondas.
Domaine de Durban Beaumes-De-Venise Rouge 2018 750mlRegular price $23.00 Save $-23.00
Varietal: 70% Grenache 25% Syrah 5% Mourvèdre
A big wine that seems light as a feather? A luscious mouthful and after the feathery part, a tannin kicks in. This red Rhône has wild strawberry in its pretty fruit bouquet and dried thyme as the aftertaste subsides.
At the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail the Domaine de Durban seems to blessed by the gods. Located on a plateau of a hill overlooking the village of Beaumes de Venise, the Domaine de Durban backed by a pine forest, looks at the vineyard and offers a breathtaking panorama. It is in an exceptional setting that the Leydier family pays full attention to the production of its various wines.
On the Durban label there is a coat of arms with three “Ts.” This is the official coat of arms of the village of Beaumes-de-Venise. The modern day city was originally three villages (Aubune, Beaumes, and Saint Véran). The “T” is a tau which is also an old form of the cross. The three taus, or crosses, are for the protectors of the three villages, Sainte Anne, Saint Roch, and Saint Sébastian.
Dom Des Sanzay Champigny Les Poyeux Saumur Rogue 2018Regular price $22.00 Save $-22.00
Varietal: Cabernet Franc
A wine with a personality marked by its terroir, very ripe grapes offering a deep red color, a pretty nose of small black fruits, a fleshy and opulent wine on the palate, with a silky tannic structure.
Domaine des Sanzay has an amazing range of wines from the town of Saumur using primarily Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. The clay on limestone soil provides wines that are light on their feet with good intensity and acidity. Louis and Julienne founded the estate in 1880 and it is now run by the fifth generation. Didier, who took over in 1993, works in the vineyards and winery while his wife Celine manages the office and sales. Their son Ludovic helps his father more each year. This 28 hectare domaine produces around 1400 hectoliters annually and is maintained with minimal plowing and grass between the vines. Indigenous yeasts are used during fermentation. Officially organic starting with the 2019 vintage, but in reality, their farming practices changed little to meet the certification as their house is in the vineyards they always farmed as gently as possible.

Hervé Souhaut Romaneaux-Destezet Syrah 2019Regular price $43.00 Save $-43.00
Varietal: 100% Syrah—30 year-old vines
Violets, bacon fat and black cherry all interplay on the nose. Deep black cherry and juicy plum flavors meshed with candied violets and cool strawberry flavors on the palate. The moderate tannins highlight the fruity components on the finish.
Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a very long maceration at a low temperature—without destemming. The wine is fermented in wooden tanks and aged on fine lees in second-hand oak casks for eight months. The wine is bottled without filtration. The wine has a total SO2 of only 25mg/L.
Hervé Souhaut created Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet in 1993. Hervé works 5-hectares of old and ancient vines—between 50 to 100 years old. He is very fortunate to own two vineyards in the Rhône Valley just opposite the storied hills of Hermitage in Saint Joseph. This region is widely recognized as being one of the finest areas for wine production on the planet; thanks in part to its elevation, ancient vineyard sites, and southeastern and southern exposures. The domaine is located further into the hills of the Northern Ardeche in the tiny town of Arlebosc, about a 30-minute drive, winding through the hills from St Joseph. The winery is underneath the 16th century “les romaneaux” fortified farm and sits in the middle of the vines that make up the Souteronne, Syrah, and white cuvées.
Domaine du Possible "Tout bu or not tout bu" 2019Regular price $28.00 Save $-28.00
Varietal: 70% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre
Full carbonic maceration of 15 days in concrete vats. Aging five to six months in concrete. 7mg per liter of sulfur added at bottling.
Nestled in the tiny village of Lansac, Domaine du Possible is the brainchild of Loïc Roure. In 2003, Loïc scrapped his initial plan of opening a restaurant/winebar/retailer, deciding instead to start his own estate. Starting out with some vines in Latour de France, he soon expanded with land closer to Lansac. He also recently purchased four hectares in Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes, a half an hour drive from the Agly Valley. The estate now consists of 10.5 hectares spread over many parcels and communes, all falling under the Côtes du Roussillon AOC.
The wines are vinified to be fresh, bright and easy-to-drink. Extraction and alcohol remain low, and instead the focus is on fruit, minerality and acidity. Most of the wines are initially
Foot-trodden, then whole clusters are added, resulting in a spontaneous, semi-carbonic maceration. Sulfur additions, if any, are decided each vintage, wine by wine. In cases where sulfur is added, Loïc never uses more than 10mg for the reds and 20mg for the white, and only at bottling.

Varietals: Mourvèdre 95%, Grenache 5%.
This is a wine of ferocious tannin in its youth, even after its prolonged respite in foudres. That aging helps coax it from its tannic cocoon, revealing an astounding complexity of flavor and aroma. The nose evokes honey and white flowers with a hint of animal fur; the color is ruby red; the fruit stains the palate; and the finish brings dusty, ripe tannins. Eric Asimov, wine critic of The New York Times, adds, “Perhaps no Bandol is as resolutely old school as Château Pradeaux. It’s an uncompromising wine, displaying Bandol in its fully untamed state ... tannic yet com- plex, with bright flavors of dark fruit, earth, leather and citrus.”
There is the appellation of Bandol with its plethora of producers, some good, some mediocre; and then there is Château Pradeaux, the unique, inimitable, standard-bearer for this ancient wine-growing district. The Château Pradeaux is situated on the outskirts of the town of Saint Cyr-sur-Mer that lies directly on the Mediterranean Ocean between Toulon and Marseilles. The estate has been in the hands of the Portalis family since before the French Revolution. In fact, Jean-Marie-Etienne Portalis, who inherited the estate in 1752, helped draft the Napoleonic Code and assisted at the negotiation of the Concordat under Napoleon the First. The estate was devastated during the French Revolution and suffered the effects of the phylloxera epidemic in the 19th century. Suzanne Portalis and her daughter, Arlette, retreated to the domaine during World War II and undertook to revive the domaine. The domaine is currently under the direction of Cyrille Portalis, the sole direct descendant of Suzanne and Arlette. He continues to maintain the great traditions of this estate and is assisted by his wife, Magali, and now his two sons, Etienne and Edouard.
