Weingut Ignaz Niedrist
This entire area of Sud Tyrol / Alto Adige was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1919, so we are deep into the German speaking, schnitzel-eating part of Italy. Fortunately the Romans instilled a wine-making tradition here, and some 1800 years after Tiberius smashed the tribes of the Rhaetii, the humble Niedrist family took up farming. Fast forward another two centuries and Ignaz Niedrist has built a small cult following, crafting fun, easy going wines with Alpine influences that defy expectations.
