Tiberio is a tiny, family-owned domaine perched in the hills of Abruzzo, overlooking the idyllic coastal city of Pescara. The estate dates to 2000, when founder Riccardo Tiberio discovered a small plot of old vine Trebbiano Abruzzese and decided to build a winery around it. This extremely rare varietal, NOT to be confused with the workhorse Trebbiano Toscano, is difficult to work with but in the right hands produces some of the most soulful white wines in Italy (just ask the folks hoarding the wines from Valentini and Emidio Pepe!). Now in the hands of daughter Cristiana, Tiberio's exceptional whites and reds are found on all of the important Italian wine lists in Manhattan and beyond.

Abruzzo is a fascinating place. At its heart a mountainous region, you can go from skiing in the Apennines to swimming in the Adriatic in less than an hour. There is plenty of everyday drinking Montepulciano on offer, but the whites are something more of a cypher and certainly less well known. Indeed, much of the local white wine is sipped as an aperitivo or consumed as an afterthought, which is a shame because when handled with appropriate care and skill the native varietals of Pecorino and Trebbiano can reach great heights. Cue Cristiana Tiberio, who is blazing a new trail, and at prices that make for amazing 'Daily Drinkers'. So swing by the shop today, grab a taste, and get yours before they're gone!
