Bisci Verdicchio di Matelica 2019
Decanter 98 “Brothers Giuseppe and Pierino Bisci founded Bisci 50 years ago, and have made it a reference for the region. Giuseppe’s sons Mauro and Tito now farm 20ha of organic vineyards at up to 370m, 17ha for the Verdicchio di Matelica wines. Fogliano is a selection from the best site, and is produced only in top vintages: fermented and matured for 15 months in cement vats.
Andy Howard MW- Powerful, intense, mineral-edged. Plenty of life and lift, green apple and lemon zest, touch of spice. Potentially very fine, with a long future ahead. Shows the class of this grape and the particular style of Matelica. Delicious.
Sara Bachiorri- Poached pear, orange marmalade on the nose, candied lemon on the palate. Bright acidity and a flinty touch.
Michael Garner- Full and nutty, almost voluptuous! Scented lime and floral fragrance. Juicy, ripe and vigorous with crunchy green fruits. Lovely balance; scented and sinwy finish. Intriguing note of fennel. You might struggle with the acidity, but with the right food: wow! Drinking Window 2023 – 2030”
